Third and Fourth Grade NewsThird and Fourth Grade Weekly Update
1. Memory Verse #10: Remember the wonders He has done. 1 Chronicles 16:12 A memory verse each week is assigned on Monday, and a test will be given on Friday.
2. Math: Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers. This week we will be learning about the addition properties, and adding 4- digit numbers.

Math skill drill: 3rd grade addition and 4th grade multiplications.
Each problem that is wrong or left blank on the math skill drill must be written correctly 2 times
3. English: Unit 1
This week in English we will be learning about: nouns.
4. Spelling Unit 10
3rd grade- clown, round, bow, cloud, power, crown, thousand, crowd, sound, count, powder, blouse, frown, would, house, found, mountain, coward
4th grade- spark, prepare, cheer, tear, scarf, rare, repair, earring, scarce, weird, sharp, rear, spare, gear, hairy, compare, alarm, harsh, upstairs, square, air, clear, large, pair, chair, weary, startle, appear, barnacle, awareness
Spelling words are assigned each Monday and a pretest given on Wednesday. If a student receives 100% on the pretest, he/she will be exempt from taking the final test on Friday. Each spelling word that is incorrectly written on the pretest must be written correctly 3 times
5. Reading:
A reading story each week is assigned on Monday, and a comprehension test will be given on Friday. The children write down the meaning of these words in their vocabulary notebook.

6. Social Studies: Chapter 1
The children write down the meaning of these words in their vocabulary notebook.
3rd grade - The places we live------This week in social studies we will be learning about: What is a Community? And Kinds of Communities
Vocabulary: community, law, citizen, population, urban area, suburb, rural area
4th grade - The Geography of California---This week in social studies we will be learning about: Where is California? And Land and Water
Vocabulary: geography, continent, equator, hemisphere, landform delta, environment
7. Books/Reading Log/Book Reports and Due Dates:
This quarter the following books need to be purchased. Students will be reading at home 3rd grade "The Hundred Dresses" by Elenor Estes and 4th grade Island of the "Blue Dolphins" by Scott O' Dell. Books, book reports, and reading logs were given out in class. If there's anyone who lost their book report, or reading log I have more. All you need to do is ask. Book reports are due on Friday, January 30, 2009.
8. Tests this week:
Wednesday- Spelling pretest on unit 10
Friday- Memory verse #10 1 Chronicles 16:12 , spelling unit 10 test, and Reading test on: 3rd grade "City Lots: Living Things in Vacant Spots" and 4th grade "Elias Sifuentes, Restaurateur" (Reading tests will be open book)
 
SPECIAL DELIVERY:
Parents if you are bringing lunch to your child during the day please go to the office and drop it off, do not go directly to your child's classroom.
When checking your child out of school early you need to go to the school office to sign out, do not go to your child's classroom first.
Each student needs to bring to class one over sized shirt for art (the shirt will get very dirty)
